Canyoning in Nepal

Canyoning in Nepal

Canyoning is an amazing body and mind experience that enables you to explore some of the last wilderness places in the Himalayas. On your journey, you will be accompanied by our expert guides who will train you first.. While Canyoning, you will make journey though narrow passages of rock which have been carved by ages of rushing water from the Himalayan snow melts and heavy monsoon rains. It is the sport of traveling down canyons using a variety of techniques including walking, scrambling, climbing, jumping, abseiling and swimming. It requires good navigational skills, rope work, swimming ability and a good level of fitness and body strength.

In most parts of the world, Canyoning is done in wet, mountain canyons - those with water flowing in them. Canyons that are good for Canyoning are cut into the bedrock stone, forming narrow slots with drops, beautiful sculptured walls and spectacular waterfalls. Although many of the best canyons are cut into limestone, other common rock types include granite and sandstone. Canyons can be very easy or rather difficult, though emphasis in the sport is on aesthetics and fun, rather than pure difficulty. Significant water flow can make canyons very treacherous, and require special rope work techniques for safe travel. All of your Canyoning gear like climbing hardware, static ropes, helmets and wetsuits is included in the trip.

There are three places where you can go Canyoning; they are all centered near the Last Resort, so you have nice comfortable accommodation to return to at the end of your day. We can arrange anything for you any from a day trip from Kathmandu to a three day all inclusive Canyoning package.

Panglang Khola is a pristine canyon close to the Last Resort offering a challenging introduction to what Canyoning is all about. This canyon prepares people for the Kahaule Khola and other canyons with a lot of abseiling. You'll learn how to control your descent as well as use all the Canyoning gear we provide. It’s the ideal canyon for beginners.

Kanglang is one step higher up from Panglang and introduces you to jumping and sliding not to mention some spectacular abseils. It offers complete challenge and test of your skills. The walk up to Kanglang Khola has beautiful views of the snow peaks on the Tibetan Plateau and the green Nepal side valleys. In combination with Panglang Khola, Kanglang gives you a fun and diverse two day Canyoning trip.

Nepal’s newest canyon is the limit of technical commercial Canyoning. This spectacular high volume canyon has a lot of abseils including a phenomenal 60 meter drop where you have to lower yourself, with the aid of your guide of course. A very scenic 40 minute walk through fields and forests and a 10 minute walk back to the Last resort means you have one of the worlds most beautiful canyons right at your doorstep. This is a canyon not to be missed!

The Canyoning area is situated on the Bhote Koshi river which means it gives you the perfect opportunity to combine a Canyoning trip with one or two days rafting and top the whole experience off with the ultimate adventure – Bungy Jump, a 160 meter drop into a tropical gorge with Bhote Kosi river raging below.
