Rolwaling is the east-west valley below Gauri Shankar (7,145m), just south of the Tibetan border. This is an isolated and culturally diverse area, but most treks conclude their visit to Rolwaling by crossing the Tesi Lapcha Pass (5,755m) into Khumbu. Rolwaling Himal is a quiet mountain region rarely visited by tourists or trekkers, making it possible for one to savor the real Himalaya here. If one adds to this course the variant routes to Manlung La and Omai Tsho, one may truly enjoy the variety inherent in trekking. |

This trek takes you to Makalu Base Camp, the fifth highest peak in the world. The trek offers a breathtaking and stimulating journey into the heart of the Khumbu region. The adventure is always refreshing and the scenery so exciting that you will never tire of the three week plus trek after climbing the peak and looking down on the wonder of the Khumbu Valley. Every bit as rewarding as the popular Khumbu Valley to the west, the Barun Valley approach to Makalu Base Camp is one of Nepal’s many unsung treasures. The ten-day walk from the airstrip at Tumlingtar in the Arun Valley is as strenuous as any, and the 3,500m climb to Shipton Pass from the suspension bridge over the Arun River between Num and Sedua will have the fittest trekker’s heart pounding. The views from the pass and from above base camp in the southwest spur of Makalu itself are unsurpassed anywhere in the Himalaya. |

Dhaulagiri Exploration Trek |
| Trek Grade: | D (Mountaineering) | | Trek Duration: | 15 days & 20 days | | Hotel in KTM: | 5 Nights | | Seasons: | Feb. to May & Sept. to Dec. | This is a long, difficult trek around Dhaulagiri that starts from Beni on the Kali Gandaki River. Follow the Myagdi Khola westwards to Darbang and turn north on a tiny trail that leads through forests into the high country. Much of the route is on snow and glaciers as it crosses French Col (5,240m.), traverses the head of Hidden Valley, and crosses 5,150m. Dhampus Pass. The trek ends with a steep descent to Marpha and a return to Pokhara, either via the Kali Gandaki or over the Ghorapani ridge for a panoramic view of the entire Dhaulagiri massif. Dhaulagiri is the sixth highest summit in the world, and though its eastern aspects are a familiar sight to those traveling the Annapurna Circuit, much of the country surrounding this 60km (56 miles) wide massif remains an enigma. Due to its unique position at the western extreme of Nepal’s cluster of really high mountains and the vast valley of the Kali Gandaki which passes right under its highest summit, the Dhaulagiri Himal generates its own unique weather systems. |
